Inspiration is a big deal to me - I crave it. These are some of the things that inspire me.
10. Music - give me a Bach Brandenburg Concerto (#3 is my favorite) or an a capella performance (especially a men's quartet), and I am a happy woman.
9. Photographers - I love to look at photography blogs and the photographs of my friends. One of my favorite parts of our West Wing tour of the White House was staring at the photographs on the walls.
8. Stacy Julian - her philosophy of memory keeping, her class at Big Picture Classes, her crafting space
7. Becky Higgins - her philosophy of memory keeping, her Project Life system, her crafting space (I recently watched a video she did on managing the papers her kids have from school - I was inspired to bring order to my memory keeping chaos)
6. Ali Edwards - her photography, her transparency/openness about her journey, her love of her family
5. Fabric Stores/Quilting Stores/Cross Stitch stores - I love the potential represented by these places. The fabrics, the patterns, the finished samples. I just want to soak them in - just like I wanted to do with the photographs at the White House.
4. The zoo - Seeing different animals makes me appreciate God's limitless creativity. I am especially inspired by birds. I don't know why, but I am drawn to them.
3. Book stores - talk about potential! Words, ideas, pictures in endless configurations!
2. Magazines - just like book stores, magazines give you access to ideas and places and products you never knew existed.
1. Pinterest - every time I tell myself I'm just going to hop on to look for a minute, it turns into an hour or more. Infinite creativity of other people.
What inspires you?
This blog is a hodge-podge of things about me - blogs I love, crafts I make, life observations and random thoughts. Hope you find something here that interests, inspires or informs you!

Favorite places - part 1
This week's writing prompt is about three favorite places. I am going to write about one each day.
1) Library/book store - I know, I talk about books ALL the time! But I love them. I can't help it. I love walking through the library to see what's new. I love wandering the shelves and discovering a little gem I would never have known to even look for. I love the freedom of checking things out knowing I can just return them if I don't like them.
I love the potential in a book store or a library - the stories, the information, the ideas that are waiting to be discovered. I love the peacefulness I usually find in those places.

Lent
I chose to give up personal book buying for Lent.
Sound crazy? It's not.
What's crazy is the fact that I usually have 20 to 40 books checked out from the library at any one time (non-fiction for research, children's books for club and blogging, adult fiction for fun and blogging).
What's crazy is the fact that I have about 20 books on my e-reader (many were free) that I haven't read yet.
What's crazy is that I have a five-shelf book case full of my TBR books (to be read).
What's crazy is my advance reader copies (from publishers for review) form another book pile in my bedroom.
Hello, my name is Jaymie and I am a book-a-holic.
I've noticed lately - well, for awhile - a compulsion. I accumulate things, books being one of them. It's pretty bad. I'll start reading a non-fiction book from the library, then really like it so I decide to buy it. Then I put it on a shelf rather than finish it because the urgency of the library return date is gone. That book isn't going anywhere. I'll finish it later. Later doesn't come. There are too many books coming out all the time - too many new stories or new pieces of information waiting to be discovered!
This is a pattern I see in other places, too. It bothers me. So, I decided to let the discipline of Lent help me curb a bad habit. I am hopeful that this time will give me some insight into WHY I do this.
So far, I am coping all right. I've visited several book stores (they are my happy place) and limited myself to magazines. I take pictures with my cell phone of books I'd like to read later and make a list for some future trip to the library. I recognize that book stores inspire me. They are places filled with hope and potential - stories to enjoy and share, lessons and skills to learn. I wouldn't want to give up book stores themselves, but I'll set aside the accumulating while I seek reasons for the compulsion behind it.
What did you give up for Lent? Or did you add a new practice? How is that going?
