To Blog or Not to Blog - final

I am pondering some format changes to my book reviews and I feel pretty good about those. So it looks like whatever else I do, I will keep blogging about books.

Stay tuned - by January 3 I hope to have made some sort of decision about where I go from here....

  1. Jaymie,

If you like using blogger i would recommend keeping both blogs and simply linking them together (see my blog project at www.aboutgreenhouse.blogspot.com). I have added a "link list" (available in the add a widget section on your layout page) at the top right of EACH of the blogs which acts as a navigation tool. They basically act as quick connects to various separate blogs. Another option, which may be better for you is to add a "Recent Post" widget/gadget which feeds from your other blog of "things of interest." That way your main "book" blog could also feature your latest random additions but not in a prominent way which would detract from the "book" theme of your main blog. Does that make sense?

I also think if you are really wanting to expand your visibility and page impressions, Facebook (group or business page, etc) is a great idea. This is definitely the wave of the next decade. It will be how people primarily communicate (vs. traditional email)...in my opinion. But i don't think that means get rid of the blog. Just use facebook to feature your blog posts by the addition of links and or dialogue geared toward developing discussion. I have a facebook page dedicated to my blogs called GreenHouse Collective. You can check it out at http://www.facebook.com/pages/GreenHouse-Collective/291859790882.

    Hope those comments were helpful.

  2. At second glance i think the point i was attempting to make was a little lost. If you create a facebook identity in addition to your blogs, your domain names become irrelevant, because people are traveling to your blog primarily via a link on facebook. I have seen a tremendous increase in traffic by doing this. If you visit my GreenHouse Collective facebook page, do me a favor and "like" it. Tell your friends who may be interested in its content I look forward to doing the same for you. Thanks.

  4. No problem. Thanks for the Facebook plug (fyi, got about 60-70 page impressions right after you posted it to facebook, which illustrates my point). Talking with other bloggers has been really helpful to me. Please let me know if you want to process any ideas or have any questions. Networking is the KEY! Merry Christmas! Best of luck.
